How to Make Someone Feel Special

This was originally posted on the Jewels of Jesus blog a couple of months ago. I'm posting it here now because I don't think I ever did and I thought you might enjoy it. :)

I have a job at a small Subway restaurant near us. Once when I made the customer's sandwich and wrapped it, I charged him for it. He paid and I gave him his sandwich in a bag. He then took the bag, looked me in the eye and said, "Thank you, Bonnie. Have a great day!"

You know what? I felt so special!!!

He had obviously seen my name on my nametag. I have only ever heard one customer say my name to me before, and that was him. It completely made my day. He took the time to look at my nametag and then use my name to thank me. 

It seems like such a small thing. But it wasn't! I glowed for the next hour!

Names are something everyone has. Sure, some people have the same name, but it is still them. I can't imagine myself with another name! Bonnie just wouldn't be Bonnie if I had a different name. 

A person's name defines them. It is them, come to think of it! People feel special if you use their names. I certainly feel special when someone uses my name.

My sister has an unusual name. Her name is Danella. (Pronounced Dan-ella, it's pretty straightforward!) Most people pronounce it either Daniella, Danyella, Danielle or any of a hundred other derivatives.

Yet she feels so special when someone takes the time to learn how to pronounce her name and then proceeds to say it right. Especially someone she doesn't know very well. She told me that because it is pronounced wrong so much, it is doubly awesome when someone makes an effort to say it right.

Here's a challenge today. Use names more often. (And in connection with complimentary terms, too, I might add!)

People feel special when you use their names. I don't know how many times I've said that in this post, but it's true and I want to get the point across!

Just a quick (and relevant) Bible verse too before I close.

Philippians 2: 9-11 NLT says (emphasis added):

Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor
and gave him the name above all other names,
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

Positive Pregnancy Test

Today Mum found the positive pregnancy test that told her Jana was on the way. She's keeping it - until she's 55 or 60, then she'll leave it on Dad's bedside table and give him a shock!

a really interesting sentence

I do not know where family doctors acquired illegibly perplexing handwriting; nevertheless, extraordinary pharmaceutical intellectuality counterbalancing indecipherability transcendentalizes intercommunication’s incomprehensibleness.


You read it right! That was a real sentence! 

But guess what makes that sentence so interesting? That sentence consists of twenty words. The first word is one letter. The second word is two letters. Each successive word increases in length by a single letter until we arrive at incomprehensibleness, a word consisting of twenty letters.

Anne!!! Definitely! Anne is awesome.

2. Are you more like Anne or Diana?
Good question! But I would absolutely have no idea.... sorry.

3. What is your favorite quote from the book/movie?
Sooo many!! Here are a couple of my favourites:

“Isn’t it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive—it’s such an interesting world. It wouldn’t be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There’d be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

“But really, Marilla, one can't stay sad very long in such an interesting world, can one?”

“It's been my experience that you can nearly always enjoy things if you make up your mind firmly that you will."

4. What was the funniest moment in it?
There are lots of awesome moments. I thought when Anne falls out of the boat into the river when she is playing with her friends is quite a funny moment though.

5. Would you rather have Diana's raven black hair or Anne's carrot red hair?
Well, actually, neither! I would prefer to have blonde hair. But that's not an option obviously.

6. What do you think of Gilbert?
It was extremely rude of him to poke fun at Anne's hair like he did. But I'm glad they made up in the end.

7. What are your thoughts on puff sleeves?
They are just the tiniest bit out of date now-a-days.

8. Have you ever been to Canada?
Unfortunately, no.

9. How would you describe Anne?
Eager to please, talkative, imaginative, bright and quick personality, has red hair and freckles.

10. Favorite word Anne uses in the book/movie?
"Kindred spirits" is either a phrase or two words, so I suppose it doesn't count. But that is really my favourite if I had to pick one.

My Heartfelt Expression of Gratitude

There I was, sitting at the computer, scrolling through my list of posted posts, searching for those still in the 'draft' situation. I found about three, all of them completely uninspiring. Maybe I should just delete them. I won't post them anytime soon, anyway! But what shall I post if I don't post one of them?

My readers will be disappointed if I don't post something. Oh well. They can wait. They always do. They are so patient..... so agreeable.. so accepting of whatever I write!! Well, why don't you tell them that, Bonnie? Let them know how much they mean to you!!

Hence this random, spur-of-the-moment heartfelt expression of my gratitude to you. You. Yes, you!! The one reading this. My reader. The awesome-est reader ever. Excepting only my other readers.

You see, my blog wouldn't be quite so awesome without you. Without you, it would be kinda pointless. Extremely pointless, in fact.

When I look at my list of published posts and see how many views my posts have had I feel humbled. That someone would actually take the time to read what I write!! That someone cares enough to read my post... then comes back next time and reads another one! And keeps reading! And maybe even 'follows' my blog!

So here's my heartfelt expression of gratitude to you. Thanks not only for reading my blog. Thanks for commenting. Thanks for making my day. Thanks for sticking around. Thanks. Thanks a lot. :D

I titled this post 'Twelve Terrifically Thrilling Things' because I am a great fan of alliteration. Can't you tell? I mean, just look at my blog's title! The Difference

The Hidden Common Snipe

So in this post I gave you all ten images of creatures that were camouflaged. Check out the post if you didn't see it!

Anyway, I was told afterwards that number nine was the hardest one. I couldn't agree more. My sisters and I spent ages trying to find the animal in that one, let me tell you!  It was easier after I googled "what does the common snipe look like" after we saw on another website that that was what was hiding. So we found what we were supposed to be looking for, which helped dramatically! Soon after we discovered that information I found the hidden snipe.  I spotted it... hiding ever so secretly on the bank of the river.

Here is the original hidden snipe picture. Can you find it?? If you can, just don't bother reading the rest of the post because it's kinda boring if you can already do it. If you can't, spend some more time trying to find the hidden animal before you give up and continue reading my post, which tells you eventually where it is.

The first picture of this that I put on the original post was super blurry. Sorry if that hampered your methods! I have since edited it so there is now the un-blurry image on the original post as well as here.

And here is the common snipe. This is what the bird that is hiding looks like.


WARNING: Do not proceed unless you have sweated over the picture for hours (well, several minutes, anyway) and absolutely, positively, CANNOT find the animal. Please don't cheat until you absolutely have to. Remember: we found it, so you can too!

Annnnd... dun, dun, dun.... *scary music*... here are the answers. The hidden snipe... unmasked!!

For those of you who STILL cannot see it, the bird's yellow and black striped head is almost exactly in the top right quarter of the black oval. You can see his beak coming down diagonally towards the bottom left quarter of the oval. His body is slanting down towards the left of the oval, coming right through where two of the rush/bush/sticky thingies cross over each other.

There you are. Good job. Did you manage to find him before I showed you? Well done if you did!

Wow, What Camouflage!

Floating around on the internet recently have been this whole pile of amazing photos depicting animals hiding with incredible camouflage. God made them so wonderfully, didn't he!
